Author Talk: Who is Jim Wilbourne?

Who is Jim Wilbourne?

Maybe you're thinking, That's a silly question! I know Jim... He's the author of The Seventh Cadence!

You're not wrong—I'll give you that—but you're only scratching the surface.

So we're going to get to know Jim a little better!

In a recent interview with Nicholas W Fuller, Jim revealed all. You can watch the whole interview below, but I'm going to give you the highlights as well.

The first not-really-a-secret Jim revealed was his exciting past as a metal head and vocalist for a number of metal bands! But his musical journey started somewhere else...

Is Music the Path?

Jim's high school, Davidson Fine Arts, won two consecutive Grammys for its music program! (I'd say that's a pretty solid start.) He went on to study music in Boston for a short time, but decided to leave college to pursue a decade-long music career touring with bands. Though he's no longer in his touring days, Jim is still a metal head at heart. Some of his favorite bands are Architects, Counterparts, and August Burns Red.

Juggling Diverse Roles

His touring journey opened a path for him to begin his self-employed ventures. Along with penning epic fantasy tales, Jim is a developmental editor, podcast editor, and YouTube editor. Beyond the creative, Jim finds fulfillment in his role as a caregiver to the elderly in a personal care home.

On Writing and Editing

Now this is the Jim you're probably most familiar with! In the video, he shares insights on The Seventh Cadence and the science-based magic system that makes the novel an intriguing blend of post-apocalyptic science fiction and epic fantasy.

As an editor, Jim is big on collaboration and tailoring each developmental edit to exactly what an author needs. He likes working with authors as early in their process as possible to help them enhance their storytelling.

Future Endeavors

Looking forward, Jim is eager about upcoming writing projects and potential appearances at conventions like Dragon Con and World Con.

If you're a writer, editor, or someone else in the creative space, Jim welcomes you to connect with him! He's all for a good collaboration and has resources he'd love to share with you. Jim has a real passion for the creative community and believes in supporting each other over competing with each other.
